Since 1905, Ironworkers Local 44 of Cincinnati have built this city. We take enormous pride in our work on landmark projects all across the Tri-state area: Great American Tower, Great American Ballpark, Paul Brown Stadium, rides at Kings Island, the bridges that take drivers across the Ohio River, and too many other projects to count.

What Is an Ironworker?
Ironworkers are skilled craftsmen who perform multiple functions to ensure major industrial projects are done safely and with structural integrity: create structural steel products, install reinforcing steel( rebar), erect ornamental iron work such as stairways, catwalks, grating, grids, screens, siding and perform the rigging of heavy machinery, pressure vessels, storage tanks and materials. Ironworkers are also welders and become well-versed in several types of cutting of steel and alloys.
Since Ironworkers often work on multi-story buildings, prospective apprentices cannot have a fear of heights and must be able to work in all kinds of environments. Ironworkers most often work outdoors, although they also work near equipment that can reach very high temperatures. Ironworkers have an extremely important job. As such, they're exposed to many potential hazards. They must have a keen awareness of these dangers to protect themselves and those around them from injury.
What Are the Program Specifics?
The Local 44 Apprenticeship Program lasts for four years, with a one-year probationary period. The program has a minimum requirement of 204 hours of classroom and/or shop instruction each year.Starting pay is 55% of the Journeyman rate.The program provides health insurance, a pension plan, and an annuity.
How Do I Qualify?
Prospective apprentices must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED. Apprentices must have a valid driver's license with reliable, insured transportation. Candidates must be drug-free and in good physical condition.
How Can I Be Most Successful as an Apprentice?
Apprentices who achieve the most success have good reading ability, general math knowledge, and prior experience in construction. In addition, candidates who are extremely teachable/coachable, have a positive attitude, and exhibit a high level of professionalism really make their mark as apprentices.
